In 2000, Mark Maiewski launched his college financial planning company in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Since then he's worked with hundreds of families. He is one of only 500 certified college planning specialists in the country and has been widely recognized as a leading expert on the college financial aid system and paying for college. Over the past seven years he has created a service that caters to parents who are frustrated with the college planning process and are rightfully scared of losing their hard earned dollars needlessly. His service positions college bound students to maximize their ability to secure endowment and scholarship money from schools. Then he works with parents to lower their out of pocket costs through cash flow strategies and tax scholarships, as he walks them through the college funding maze and eliminates the administrative nightmare.

Mark says:

"With the continued rising costs of college, parents are just being overwhelmed when they look at the staggering amount of money it will take to send their children to college. They need real guidance. We work with students to think backwards--what do you really want to do based on your skills and interests, then show them how they can accomplish that. Then if positioned properly, these students can qualify for endowment money, which will lower the family's out of pocket costs.

We want parents to make smart decisions with their money and to guide students to make positive choices for their future. This is accomplished by a proven plan of action and accountability. Last year our clients with seniors averaged over $5,612 in free money for each of the next four years."

With a background in financial services and an extensive knowledge of the financial aid process and its strategies, Mark provides free educational clinics to show parents how to take a proactive approach to reducing their out of pocket costs.

He has teamed with WHSV TV3 in Harrisonburg on their College 101 project, been featured in the Northern Augusta Journal, the Shenandoah Journal, and interviewed on Christian radio station WLTK. Mark is also a part time instructor at Blue Ridge Community College teaching parents how to pay for college without depending on financial aid.

Mark is a member of the National Institute of Certified College Planners and is listed with the Better Business Bureau. He currently resides in Mount Crawford, VA. with his children Caitlin and Nathan.

...our faithful CFA SUPERHERO...
Toward the end of my son's junior year I decided to begin to do my research and learn all about financing a college education. Several months, books, and government pamphlets later I was not only more confused, but depressed into the bargain. I had read many sources but none gave me a clear description of what steps to follow or where you went to get what piece of information. All my reading had me convinced there was no way we would be eligible for aid, and there was no way we could afford the price of tuition. It was after a summer of reading and stewing that I happened to go to one of Mark Maiewski's seminars.

I really valued Mark's presentation, it made me realize that the process was indeed as complicated as I thought and I had neither the time nor the expertise to do the best job for my child. With Mark's help we were able to work our way through the various financial forms. He was able to help us fill out the forms in a way that was honest and correct, and to our best advantage. Filling out the FAFSA form was only the beginning. My son knew exactly where he wanted to go and was accepted there. We still needed a lot of help negotiating the financial aid labyrinth. Mark was there every step of the way and supplied answers to questions we hadn't even thought to ask. He saved us hours of work and heartache.

Once we had gone through the process you would think that we could then do it on our own. We stick with Mark because each year brings new changes, new forms, and new challenges. We could never do this on our own and keep our sanity.

Our daughter is now going to college and once again we are calling in our faithful CFA SUPERHERO. Paying for two may be more expensive but even before we have started to work on the FAFSA form or anything else Mark has provided a load of help, even for us "old hands". Using CFA was one of the best decisions I ever made. I know that it has not only made our lives easier, it has also provided a better opportunity for both our children than anything we would have been able to do.
